WELL, HERE we are coming to the end of another naturist year, and a busy year it has been at Wyvern.
Let's start with our swim, which is held on the first Sunday of each month at the Cascades swimming-pool
in Tewkesbury - well, every month that Tewkesbury isn't flooded, that is! We welcome new members and visitors, by appointment please, if we are to keep this swim going.
And on to the landed club. We are a stone's throw from the M50, near Ledbury, and our little piece of
tranquillity in the heart of rural Gloucestershire is perfect for an afternoon of sunning and relaxation, but we have the occasional lively weekend too!
The summer banquet was a huge success, attended by 40 members and guests: we all sat down together to
enjoy a fine repast in the summer sun (yes, that was the day we had summer!) and this is one event we plan to repeat next year.
The James Bond evening was an immense amount of fun. Some dressed up and others dressed down to a
bare minimum whilst keeping to the theme. No James Bond film is complete without a casino, so we had one of those, too, with roulette and blackjack. Then, with the arrival of James Bond (John) in style, the evening was complete. There was a prize for the most money (Monopoly money, honest!) won at the tables throughout the evening, which John, our newest member, walked away with.
Our annual Wyvern fun day was, as usual, a roaring success - loads of games and activities laid out. With
tournaments and competitions there was something for everyone, but we mustn't forget the soapy slide - a plastic sheet laid out on a slope, covered in water, with a few bottles of washing-up liquid and no clothes to impede progress. Covered from head to foot in a mass of soap-suds, it seemed like a good idea to give the ladies a cuddle, even if it did mean chasing some of them around the grounds! We had the guys and gals from SOC camping with us this year - we couldn't keep them off the soapy slide, and we'd welcome them back again next year. (We have to say that because the chairman of SOC is a member of the club).
The 'Last Night of the Proms' has always been popular - at Wyvern we dressed down and still had as much
fun. We each had items of red, white and blue, there were union flags all around the clubhouse, there were nibbles and the wine flowed freely to the familiar BBC broadcast. Everyone joined in with the patriotic songs (Elgar lived just up the road from here, you know!) and a great time was had by all.
Another bright summer's day saw the members displaying their talents in a conservation awareness day,
with a spinningwheel demonstration which we were able to try ourselves, a belly-dancing workshop hosted by Angela Russell, and a rather large remote-controlled model aircraft was displayed by one of our older members.
A few pounds worth of fireworks went up in smoke on bonfire night, safely orchestrated by our resident
pyromaniac Chris, ably assisted by Darren - thanks, guys!
Although it was not the best of summers, we were blessed with sunshine when we needed it, and we had 14
- yes, 14 - new members join this year, so we must be doing something right.
At last, after four years of hard toil, the perimeter fence has been completed, so we can't allow those 14
new members to escape now, can we? Next year it will be 25 years since the club was founded, so we have some celebrating to do. Look out for details on the club's website - we have big plans for this event. |
